NDSM provides food and hygiene items valued at $800,000 to over 20,000 individuals annually. Milk, eggs, meat, frozen entrees, tortillas, as well as boxed and canned items are staples of a 5 day supply of food. No household goes without laundry soap, toilet paper, toothpaste and other personal items.
NDSM’s Friday Food Basket program provides food valued at $180,000 to seniors and disabled persons, who collectively visit 10,000 times annually. This program supplies a bag of groceries each week to clients without their having to wait or complete an application. There is no limit to the number of visits. NDSM also distributes food valued at $50,000 to Seniors through People and Nutrition (PAN), a monthly USDA supplemental food assistance program. NDSM accesses over 600 families per year to Food for Families, a monthly supplemental food assistance program offered in cooperation with the North Texas Food Bank at John Calvin Presbyterian Church. |

Financial Aid

NDSM provides $350,000 in rent and utility assistance to 1,000 households with assessed need and verified income. Through in-depth interviewing, verifications, and computerized client visit records, NDSM determines clients’ needs. |

Clothing
|
NDSM provides $200,000 in new and used clothing to 6,000 pre-qualified persons annually. In addition, NDSM offers low cost clothing to those with very limited budgets. |

Education
|
NDSM spends over $42,000 each year to provide 1,700 children with two sets of new school uniforms.
NDSM provides, at a cost of $35,000, school supplies to 1,700 children whose enrollment has been verified. NDSM teaches English-as-a-second language classes to about 35 students twice weekly to support their desire to better themselves both financially and socially. |

Eye Exams
and Glasses |
NDSM budgets $65,000 to pay $59 or $79 for glasses for 1,000 adults and children. Dr. Jeffrey Halpin of Texas State Optical performs all exams free of charge. |

Supportive Help
|
NDSM provides funds for birth certificates and Texas ID cards.
NDSM provides DART passes and issues gas vouchers to get persons to confirmed jobs and appointments. NDSM provides funds for furniture to help a household displaced through domestic violence, mental illness or fire—$85 pays for a table and chairs, a bed, a sofa, and delivery. NDSM provides funds for Greyhound bus tickets to return individuals or families to home or jobs. NDSM provides funds for medical prescriptions. |

Employment Counseling
|
NDSM volunteer Job Counselors assess job readiness, help clients access job opportunities and assist with transportation costs to interviews for 600 clients annually. Counselors also give practical grooming and conduct advice to these clients seeking mostly entry level jobs. |
