Senior Food ProgramWe have two food assistance programs for seniors. One of these also assists disabled people. We distribute groceries on Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. School Uniforms and SuppliesIn mid-summer we provide two new school uniforms and a full complement of school supplies to pre-qualified children. We accept applications beginning in June. We distribute the uniforms the week before DISD begins classes and school supplies on the first day of school. We assist over 2,500 children annually in each of the programs. Rent/Utility AdvancesWe advance rent and utility payments at the request of Dallas County Health and Human Services caseworkers for disabled county residents without income to expedite rental payments to apartment complexes and prevent eviction. FurnitureIn partnership with the Dallas Furniture Bank, we provide furniture to displaced households. We place the order for furniture and delivery and pay for both. The Furniture Bank then schedules a delivery date directly with the client. Birth Certificates and ID’sWe pay for birth certificates when there is a specific, verifiable need. As those seeking employment must present a social security card and valid state-issued ID to potential employers, we may pay for a Texas ID. TransportationAt the discretion of the job counselor, we may provide bus tokens or gas vouchers for job searches. Those with confirmed employment may receive bus tokens or gas vouchers to get to work. We may pay for a Greyhound bus ticket to get a victim of domestic violence or a homeless or stranded person to a location where he/she has a confirmed residence or job. |
